I love Daria Pitak's photography because the portraits portray a strong contrast between light and dark. She has enhanced the models features such as her eyes, eyebrows and freckles. I love how light and bright her eyes and skin is compared to the models dark, bold hair, freckles and eyebrows, in some images Pitak has managed to capture natural highlights and shadows to sculpt the the models face. Daria has framed her portraits so the face is the main focus of the image, she has done this by out focusing around the face and brightening the models skin within her bold hair and dark, grey background.

I chose Cristina Otero because her work expresses 'Light and Dark' very differently to any other photographers I have seen. Her images are filled with splashes of bright colours like red or blue. Cristina's work is very elegant and unique, I love how she uses red lips or red roses which contrast alluringly against the pale, faces of the model. The term 'Light and Dark' can be portrayed very beautifully, including bright colours against paler or darker backgrounds or faces, I believe these photos are very attractive, gripping and expressive. Otero's work is mainly female portraits, taken closely to the face to capture the model's features. Cristina's main focus seems to be bright eyes, red lips and sculpted face or usually hidden within the models long hair. to me, the images are portrayed as Serious, Romantic and Gothic. This is something I would like to achieve in my shoots.

I like this image the most from the images I have chosen for Cristina Otero because it clearly presents shadows and contrast between colours. Cristina has enhanced the models eyes and lips in the image which portrays to be very powerful in contrast to her pale skin and defined cheekbones. The shadows behind her sculpt her face and neck and seem to bring out the dark areas of her eyes like pupil and mascara, to get this effect Otero has shot in a studio to get the shadows then darkened and enhanced them in photoshop. I love how Cristina has created luminosity in her eyes by brightening to make them stand out. The image is cropped very closely to the models face, which makes the photo more effective and emotional, we are forced and pulled into the models eyes, nose and lips. Overall I love this picture because it is very minimal but powerful. I love the contrast between the bold and bright colours in the models features and the shadows that sculpt the models pale face.

This is another one of my favourite images from photographer Cristina Otero. It is a very powerful photograph and does an amazing job of gripping the eye. The editing and composition pulls you into the colours and models expression. the photographer could have created this image for advertisements because it the portrait is extremely captivating- it makes you look twice or even hold a stare.
The portrait is perfect but I believe this is because most of it has been painted and manipulated in Photoshop. From looking at the image I can tell Cristina has smoothed and perfected the skin- and made it a few shades lighter or paler for the colours within the image to pop and stand out. The photographer has used the patch tool, paint tool and dodge tool to reach this product, as the colour/shades goes further to the middle of the face it gets paler which creates a symmetrical feel to the image. I love how much detail Cristina has put into the eyes, the use of the colour white really makes the eyes detailed and stand out compared to any other feature on the face - I will use this in my own work as it has made the image mesmerizing. The main colour in the image is red which can be seen contrasting around the pale face and even reflecting onto the outskirts of it. It also contrasts with the black background. To get this shot Cristina has manipulated a studio and created a face positioned lighting to brighten her face and focus on her features to make them pop. She has also used a portrait lens to focus on her facein detail and create a vertically longer sized photograph |
